CENTRE COUNTY — The Bellefonte boys soccer team erupted for five goals in the first half against Bald Eagle Area to claim a 6-1 win on Sept. 23 at BEA’s Alumni Stadium.
Seth Catan scored three of Bellefonte’s first four goals. The Red Raiders (5-1) outshot BEA, 19-5.
Catan’s first goal came 2:16 into the game off an assist from Keegan Timblin. Catan followed that with an unassisted goal to give the Red Raiders a 3-0 lead at 7:42 of the first half. He got the hat trick by booting the ball into the net off an assist from Cole Stabinger at 17:35 to make the score 4-0.
“I challenged our guys up from to come out aggressive tonight and they crashed the goal hard,” Bellefonte coach Scott Martz said. “Between the sun and our guys firing on the goal, BEA’s keeper (Tanner Pearce) didn’t have much time to react. A quick start is always a good thing when you play your rival school, and at their place, so getting things going fast was very important.
“Our midfield did an awesome job controlling the field and making beautiful passes up to our strikers. Our defense held very well and played great. It was a nice night to be able to get everyone some good quality playing time and experience.”
Timblin scored an unassisted goal just over a minute after Catan’s first goal. He added a second goal at 34:22 off of a feed from Desmond Grindley, making the score 5-0.
Bellefonte’s Wesley Cook booted a goal at 42:11 in the second half. BEA’s Logan Parsons scored the final goal, with the assist going to Parker Dubbs.
“We did not play very well in the first half,” BEA coach Jason Bair said, “but switched some things around and the team definitely played better soccer in the second half. So it was a good growing opportunity for us. We will learn from this and grow.”
STATE COLLEGE BOYS
The State College boys team (7-3-2) went 3-0 over five days, winning at Carlisle, 3-1, on Sept. 22 before capturing home wins over Mechanicsburg, 1-0, on Sept. 23 and Chambersburg, 2-1, on Sept. 26.
Statistics weren’t reported from those games.

The Rams (3-6) got two goals apiece from Jameson Shawver and Kyus Kinter. Liam Merrit also scored for Penns Valley.
Penns Valley goalkeepers Collin Wolfe and Jarrett Peters had two saves apiece to preserve the shutout. P-O keeper Camden Henschel had 10 saves.
The Mounties (0-8) also lost to Hollidaysburg, 10-1, on Sept. 22 at home.
ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC BOYS

BELLEFONTE GIRLS
The Bellefonte girls team captured a 3-0 senior night win over Bald Eagle Area on Sept. 23 at home. That came a day after the Lady Red Raiders won at Central, 3-1.
On Sept. 28, Bellefonte rolled to a 15-0 win at Penns Valley to hike its record to 5-0-1.
Three different Lady Red Raiders scored goals against BEA. Norah Davis, Reese Patterson and Emily Culley scored the goals. Sydney Miller dished out two assists that preceded goals.
Bellefonte goalkeeper Ronni Spotts made six saves in preserving the shutout. BEA goalkeeper Cami Walker was busy making 23 saves as the Lady Red Raiders outshot the Lady Eagles, 26-5.
“It was an exciting senior night that played out like a typical BEA vs. Bellefonte game,” Bellefonte coach Stacey Miller said. “Both teams battled hard. Cami Walker played lights out and had some amazing saves for BEA. Our team played well and turned up their offensive attack in the second half after our halftime talk.
“We were happy to see them make improvements in the second half and end the game 3-0. This team continues to impress me each and every game I coach them. I’m proud of their success due to all the hard work they’ve been putting in at practices.”
BEA coach Jared Moore said his team played well.
“We were right with them,” he said. “An error on our part put us down 1-0 at half, but we moved some people around and I thought we were right with them in the second half. Savanna Albright was outstanding and didn’t let anything get into the box.”
“Cami Walker made save after save and quite a few diving saves. Bellefonte put two great long ranged shots that just went under the bar in to seal it.”
Eleven different Lady Raiders scored against Penns Valley, including three goals from Davis. Patterson and Elizabeth Brezler scored two apiece. Davis and Patterson lead the Lady Red Raiders in goals this season with eight apiece.
Claire Halterman, Trinity Semack, Eva Svenke, Juniper Ondrasik, Autumn Naspinski, Kaylee Knepp, Piper Breon and Culley also scored goals.
Goalkeepers Spotts and Piper Rock didn’t face a shot on goal.

STATE COLLEGE GIRLS

Mechanicsburg’s Sofia Shaw scored two goals, while Maddy Walker and Shannon McGuire scored the other two goals. State College goalkeeper Kali Hazel had 20 saves.
“State battled tough in an away match and generated eight solid opportunities on frame,” State College coach Kent Dwyer said. “We actually had a headball ping off the bottom of the crossbar, and my players swear it crossed the goal line, but we ended up conceding with 10:36 left in the first half (Maddy Walker).
“We generated a couple more chances in the second half and had our opponents scrambling a bit, but then Sofia Shaw scored 13 minutes into the second half.”
